Why Cox's Bazar

Every Bangladesh system we build is located in the Rohingya refugee camps of Cox's Bazar, home to more than a million people who have been forced to flee Myanmar, most of them since 2017.

Nearly a decade on, the camps remain densely packed across hillsides, with most homes still made of bamboo and tarpaulin. Water and sanitation facilities haven't kept pace with the population, and in 2025 the refugee response received only about half of the funding it needed. (Sources: UNHCR, OCHA)

Why a Shared Project here: in camps this crowded, a shared system does the most work. Sponsors come together behind one Community Water System, whose storage tank and multiple taps let many households collect water from a single point.

How shared projects work

Each project has a fixed number of slots, and each slot carries one dedication name.
Take one slot or several. Add each slot to your cart separately, with its own name.
All names from one order always appear together on the same nameplate. If your order won't fit in a project's remaining slots, we start a fresh project for it.
When the project is complete, one nameplate lists every sponsor's name.
Construction begins at the month-end after every slot is filled, then takes 6–10 weeks for completion.
If a project isn't fully sponsored within 2 months of its first slot, we fill the remaining slots ourselves, and we'll notify you directly if there's ever a delay.
Open Water Sponsorships also fill shared project slots as needed, helping every project reach its build sooner.

Each slot carries one dedication name: dedicate it in your name, your family, or in memory of someone. Enter the name exactly as it should appear — names are printed as entered, and can't be changed once the nameplate has been made. When every slot in the project is filled, the completed system carries one nameplate listing every sponsor's name.

Each system is built by our vetted on-ground partner to suit local requirements. Depth, storage and construction methods vary by country, depending on ground conditions, local materials and available equipment, so systems aren't identical from one country to the next. The exact site is selected with our partner based on need and suitability. What stays the same: a complete system, built as described, and confirmed with photos in your delivery report.
